Wonderful and Weird Stories from Downtown Denver…A deranged looking homeless man was leaning against the wall and repeatedly picking up and throwing down five rocks as if they were dice. It was 1:45 in the afternoon on a busy street in Denver and I was instantly very nervous. What was up with this crazy dude? Do these people do this on purpose to freak out normal people, or are they legitimately nuts? Anyway, that brings me to the question of the day for Vertically Striped Radio…Which inspires the question of the day…What makes you just a little too nervous?

News Story 1
AMSTERDAM (Reuters) – Dutch twin brothers who mugged a teenager in the northern town of Groningen were arrested after being caught on camera by a car gathering images for Google's online photo map service, police said.
The pair stole the 14-year-old boy's mobile phone and 165 euros ($230) in cash last September.
"The picture was taken just a moment before the crime," a police spokesman said.
In March, the victim recognized himself and the two robbers while surfing Google Maps, which has a "Street View" feature allowing users to see images of buildings. The images are usually taken by a camera mounted on a car.
After an investigation by the police, one of the 24-year-old twins confessed to robbing the boy.
News Story 2
MADRID (Reuters) – A Spanish bar is encouraging clients to insult its staff and offering free drinks for original or hilarious abuse.
"When you come in after work, you can say swear at them and call them a jerk or imbecile," said client Antonio Ossa, who told state news agency EFE the promotion by the "Casa Pocho" bar in the southern town of Cullera near Valencia seemed like a good idea to him.
Polish-born bar owner Bernard Mariusz said he thought people needed somewhere to release their frustrations at a time of economic crisis, employing the Spanish language's rich store of earthy obscenities.
"That way they won't let it out on their family," he said.
News Story 3
LONDON (Reuters) – Former Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova presented a prototype dress to reporters that is designed to light up when the wearer's mobile telephone rings.
British fashion student Georgie Davis dreamed up the knee-length sleeveless white dress as part of a school project with mobile phone-maker Sony Ericsson to figure out ways of incorporating new technology into fashion.
Davis said the dress is designed to eventually be connected to the wearer's phone by Bluetooth wireless technology, so she can be alerted to a call even in noisiest of places.
"When you're in a pub or a bar, you can never, ever hear your phone," 20-year-old Davis told Reuters on Wednesday.
The right shoulder of the dress is embellished with translucent white scales that move and light up.
Sharapova showed off the dress to a gaggle of photographers and a crowd of passers-by from the window a luxury department store in central London.

Let’s talk a bit about what’s going down in the world of sports…
Denver Broncos drama: Losing Shanny, Losing Jay Cutler, and now Brandon Marshall is saying he wants out. What is wrong in Dove Valley?? Has a coach ever been fired before ever coaching a single game?
The big thing this week of course is the NBA Draft.
(Look to see if Joe has called in)
NBA Draft preview –
Things I like about the watching draft:
-Young soon to be very rich guys with no taste in wild suits putting on hats
-NBA Draft caps: For a hat guy like me, some of the best hats of the year for the NBA fan. This year’s are gorgeous, they’re black Adidas numbers, and they are some of the more beautiful ones we’ve ever had.
-Sports talk People talking about young basketball players and using words like Motor, Long, Sexy, Upside, Explosive, Potential and Length. What will be the breakout word this year?
Let’s preview the first several picks…
1. The amount of players who probably cost themselves a lot of money by going back to school Ed Davis (PF – Age 20 Freshman North Carolina 6’10), Greg Monroe (Age 19 - 6’11 Georgetown), Al-Farouq Aminu (18 years old, projected as high as 8 overall 6’8 from Wake Forrest), Willie Warren (6’4 SG from Oklahoma) , Cole Aldrich, and John Wall).2. As much as people say how bad this draft is, there is an abundance of point guard depth (draftexpress.com has 11 point guards predicted to go in the first round).3. How is Ty Lawson projected to go late teens /early twenties? I must be missing something here, but I thought he was the second best player in college basketball last season. He won't play any defense in the pros, but he's a decent shoooter, can get to the hoop against anyone, and he has a fantastic handle. I think the Suns would be crazy to not draft him as Steve Nash replacement. If you want to call me before the show to talk my number is 301-367-9364. If you're full today and prefer that I not call in just let me know. Joe
Clippers – Blake Griffin or trade (Rumors that OKC would like Blake Griffin – instate hero couldn’t hurt marketing)
Grizzlies – Hasheem Thabeet or Ricky Rubio – I was reading True Hoop this week, and they were talking about how Memphis likes Thabeet so much, they are already considering having a local band reproduce the Go-Go’s song “We’ve got the beat” and changing it to “We’ve got Thabeet”
Oklahoma City Hijackers – Thabeet or Rubio seems like they are in the same position as the Nuggets were in back in 2003 when they were going to take whoever Detroit didn’t take between Carmelo Anthony or Darko Milicic (and a big thank you to Joe Dumars for making the wrong choice), OKC will probably take whichever one the Grizzlies don’t take between the Thabeet/Rubio duo, but there are also rumors that are being spread by James Harden that the Hijackers have promised Harden they are going to take the 6’5 Shooting Guard from Arizona State. Harden is rumored to be rising and has good decision making skills and is an efficient player, but needs work on his perimeter shot.
Kings – If the Hijackers do take Harden, I think that the Kings will happily take Ricky Rubio, who may or may not agree to play with them.
Wizards – Jordan Hill 6-10 Junior from Arizona or James Harden
Timberwolves – DeMar DeRozen SG/SF 6-7 Freshman from USC or Tyreke Evans PG/SG 6-5 from Memphis
Warriors – DeRozen or Evans
Knicks – Stephen Curry – PG/SG Davidson 6-3
Raptors – Jrue Holiday – PG UCLA 19 years old 6-3
Bucks – Brandon Jennings – 19 year old who skipped college to play a season in Rome.

I still have more followers than people I’m following, but you really should start following me. Come on, I’d like to get up to 50, that’s my meager goal.

Text messaging – This whole country is turning into morons. How hard is it to spell a whole word? We may be saving time by not typing out the Y and the O when we spell you, but the end result is that our methods of communication are devolving into a retarded stew of stupid.
