SICHUAN, CHINA
A chef has died after an eel was put up his bum.
Shocked doctors in Sichuan, China, found the sea creature in the 59-year-old man's rectum after his death, it has been reported.
The 50cm long Asian swamp eel was allegedly inserted into the unnamed man's bottom, after he passed out drunk, by pals playing a prank on him.
Medics said the eel had devoured his bowels.

Pork test to bust cheats
KAZAKHSTAN (Reuters) - Scientists in mainly Muslim Kazakhstan have come up with an instant test for the presence of pork in food, a popular newspaper reported on Monday.
The plastic-stick test detects food molecules that are found only in pork, which is forbidden by Islam but is easily found in the Central Asian state, Megapolis weekly said.
"It's no secret that some chefs cheat and add pork to beef to make the dish cheaper," the newspaper wrote on Monday, saying the practice was widespread in Kazakhstan.
"When you get your beef patty, cut off a couple of small pieces and drop them in a glass of water. Stir, shake, put the test stick in ... In a minute or two you will see the result."
Megapolis said it was unclear when the test, in which the stick changes color as in a pregnancy test, would become widely available.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) -- A South Korean woman who earned a driver's license after 960 tries is ready to buy a car and get behind the wheel. 69-year-old Cha Sa-soon passed the driving part of the test last month on her 10th try. South Korea requires a written test first, and Cha took it nearly daily since April 2005 before passing last year.
Yonhap quoted her as saying she wanted to buy a small secondhand car to visit her son and daughter and for her business selling vegetables.

(Reuters) - An under-16 Australian Rules football team has come under fire for entering a sponsorship deal with a local Hooters franchise, with critics saying the move could give adolescent boys the wrong message.
The Broadbeach Cats team in Australia's Gold Coast were cheered on by two skimpily-dressed staff from the Mermaid Beach franchise of the American restaurant chain during their home game against local side Labrador on the weekend.
"The message these boys are getting -- and bear in mind we're talking 15 and 16-year-old boys -- is that ... as a young footballer you have an entitlement to large-breasted women in skimpy outfits bouncing around at your games," women's advocate Melinda Tankard Reist said on an Australian morning television show.
Restaurant owner Morney Schledusch described the criticism as "ridiculous."
"Our waitresses represent the all-American cheerleader," he told local media. "And no, they don't all have big boobs.
"We are all about sport. We had a great opportunity here to show Australia what we are really about."
The staff members would not be back to cheer on more matches and their presence had not affected the Broadbeach players, who romped to a big win over Labrador, the team's coach Neil Boston said.
"They are here to play football -- that's all," he said.

Lets get to the news…

Let’s get to the news… (Play News Music – Clip 03)

CANBERRA (Reuters) – An Australian council is rueing a decision to send street cleaners into a Melbourne lane after they painted over a priceless stencil of a rat by the celebrated British graffiti artist Banksy.
Melbourne Deputy Lord Mayor Susan Riley last week sent a clean-up team into Hosier Lane, renowned internationally for its colorful street art, to clean up garbage in the graffiti-lined passage after local residents complained.
But the request went awry when the cleaners painted over a Banksy stencil of a rat hanging underneath a parachute and adorning the wall of an old council building. "Unfortunately the contractors were not made aware by us that that was an important piece. It is the nature of graffiti art. It's very vulnerable to other people's work," Council chief executive Kathy Alexander told local radio.
The reclusive Banksy, who is regarded as one of the world's top street artists, painted several stencils in Melbourne during a 2003 visit. His satirical and distinctive art is often directed at anti-war, cultural and anti-capitalist themes.
Banksy in 2005 painted nine images on Israel's West Bank barrier, including a ladder going over the wall and an image of children breaking through to a tropical island.

In 2008, a London wall bearing one of his stencils was said to have sold on eBay for almost $500,000.
It is not the first time Banksy's art has been fouled in Melbourne. Vandals created another outcry in 2008 when they poured paint over the artist's stencil of a diver in an old-fashioned helmet and wearing a trenchcoat.
That work was afterwards protected by a sheet of clear perspex, although vandals struck again and poured silver paint behind the barrier, tagging it with the words "Banksy woz ere."
Alexander said the city council would rush through retrospective permits to protect other famous or significant artworks in Australia's second-largest city.
"In hindsight, we should have acted sooner to formally approve and protect all known Banksy works," she said.

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) -- Police in New Bedford, Mass., say a substitute teacher who was taken to a hospital after drinking tainted iced coffee has admitted lacing the drink himself.
The teacher, 27-year-old Chad Wunschel, became sick after taking a sip of the drink and spitting it out. That happened Wednesday during a welding class at Greater New Bedford Vocational Technical Regional High School.
Police had been investigating whether a student might have spiked the coffee.
Police Chief Ronald Teachman said Friday that Wunschel told a detective he was depressed over a recent breakup and was looking for attention. Teachman said Wunschel will likely be charged with filing a false report.
Police haven't specified what the chemical was.

TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- A 67-year-old Oklahoma man had quite a fright after backing his car at high speed through a seventh-floor exterior wall of a parking garage.
Ralph Hudson says his foot got stuck between his Mercedes' brake and gas pedal as he was backing up in a towering parking garage in downtown Tulsa on Wednesday.
The car burst through the building's exterior wall and sprayed debris on a parking lot below before stopping just in time. The car's trunk and part of its back wheels were left hanging precariously out of the building but officials were able to safely drive it back inside.
No injuries were reported. Police officer Jason Willingham says Hudson was not ticketed over the incident.

Conspiracy Segment: (Clip 24 – LCS Conspiracy Music)

What do you think of when you hear the name El Guapo? I never thought that there could be a conspiracy surrounding El Guapo. Never even entered my head. I’ve always just bought into the official story that we’ve been told about he was a murderous bad guy, but as is so often the case with the “official story” there is a lot that hasn’t been told.

Did you realize that he was actually an in-famous actor? Even the Three Amigos knew this. (Clip 29 – The In-Famous El Guapo)

Much of the negative press and lies that have been spread about El Guapo were from the Amigos themselves. (Clip 28 – Anti El Guapo Propaganda)

El Guapo was actually quite the humanitarian. He was responsible for keeping the town of Santa Poco alive during the Great Depression by providing the funds to keep many important services and infrastructures in place with his own money. But rather than appreciating him for it, the people of Santa Poco were split. His faithful friends who realized the work El Guapo was doing left Santa Poco to live with him in a Spanish Mission doing good works. These men loved him so much that for his birthday they pulled together to get him a special gift. (Clip 39 – It’s a sweater)

What is another way we can find out that El Guapo isn’t who he has been painted to be by the main stream media? Follow the money…Turns out El Guapo had made a lot of enemies as he sought to do good in Santa Poco. He had brought in some German Agents who helped fight the mafia who previously had been running Santa Poco, and the mafia had been running a pretty good Tequila business bringing in millions annually in the tequila trade, and El Guapos policies put them out of business. The mafia doesn’t take too kindly to people horning in on their business interests.

In addition, the CIA were upset at El Guapo because he thought that just because Santa Poco wasn’t technically inside the borders of the United States that the CIA had no business being in Santa Poco. He had declared that he was going to be pushing the agency out of their Santa Poco headquarters which was of course not sitting too well with the CIA who don’t like to be told by anyone what they can or cannot do.

In addition, Prescott Bush had built a winter home in Santa Poco, but had exploited some workers in building his palace, and he refused to pay the city taxes to Santa Poco. El Guapo thought that since Bush was living in Santa Poco at that time, that he should be helping contribute tax revenue to the city as El Guapo had been doing by practically financing the entire city budget. Prescott Bush was none to happy about this attempted strong arming, so he raised up a coalition of women, children and old folks…the so called “Liberation Army” which were actually puppets of the Bush family. They were the ones who hired the Three Amigos who were puppets of the Bush family and this coalition. The Amigos were actually fighting on the wrong side of justice, but because the “Liberation Army” was made up entirely of women, children and old people, they thought that they were fighting for truth. The Amigos were misled, but because they lent their power to fight for this group of people who hardly knew how to do anything but sow, the wrong side won the victory. As we know, the people who win wars get to write the history of what happened, which is how the story of the Evil El Guapo was allowed to proliferate.

However, there are a lot of inconsistencies with the official story. Somehow this group of women, children and infirm people were able to sew together a ton of 3 Amigo costumes in a matter of minutes and then they were supplied with a heavy array of guns and ammunition sufficient to turn away El Guapo’s righteous army? Doesn’t that sound just a little fishy?

Here’s what many people think actually happened. The Bush family, upset at how they had been treated aligned themselves with the CIA who were tired of being pushed around by the El Guapo administration. El Guapo had threatened to shut down the CIA, and he had already run the mafia out of town, so a coalition of the mafia and the CIA banded together, financed by Prescott Bush, and they had a whole army of CIA agents hiding in Santa Poco under the guise of “people wearing Three Amigo uniforms.” The battle broke out, and the CIA agents interspersed with the regular citizens and with this exceptional fighting force, they were able to ambush and assassinate El Guapo.

It’s not exactly the story they want you to hear, but it does make a lot of sense. Doesn’t it?

Let’s get to the news… (Play News Music – Clip 03)

COPENHAGEN (Reuters) – A Danish hotel is pioneering a pedal-power electricity generation scheme it hopes will catch on in other countries.

The Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers, 15 minutes from the center of the Danish capital and five minutes from Scandinavia's main airport, is installing two exercise bicycles hooked up to generators.

Guests will be invited to jump on and start pedaling -- and if they produce enough electricity they will be given a free meal.

"Anyone producing 10 watt hours of electricity or more for the hotel will be given a locally produced complimentary meal encouraging guests to not only get fit but also reduce their carbon footprint and save electricity and money."

Hotel spokeswoman Frederikke Tommergaard said the free meal offer applied only to hotel guests, not random passers-by.

The value of the meal -- any one of the main courses on the hotel restaurant or lobby bar's menu – is valued at about 240 Danish crowns or $44 American.

The bikes will be up and running by April 19 and the plan is to test the idea for a year with a view to expanding it to more Crowne Plaza hotels.
Any Apple Store in the United States – Do you want an iPad so badly that you’re considering dropping 700 bucks on one even though you really didn’t know why you need it? Well, if you’re still looking for reasons to buy…here is another one. The iPad is proving to be a popular toy for American cats.
YouTube is rapidly filling with videos depicting the device being used as an expensive cat toy, with a search for "iPad cat" returning 385 results, including some with more than 20,000 views.
The videos include cats chasing virtual string and butterflies and even playing the "Magic Piano" application.
Many Cat irritating Apps are now available for the iPad, including a popular and controversial download called "Cat Annoy," which creates eight different sounds designed to annoy felines. So if you’re looking for a reason to buy, I have simple question for you…Do you hate cats? If so, the iPad may be for you!

PUNXSUTAWNEY, PA - A HEAVILY intoxicated Pennsylvania man tried to resuscitate at dead possum lying along a highway, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported Friday.
Donald Wolfe, 55, was spotted by a policeman attempting to breathe life back into the dead animal around 3pm local time Thursday in a remote area north of Pittsburgh.
State troopers arrested Wolfe along an isolated stretch of the highway and charged him with public drunkenness, the paper reported.
Trooper Jamie Levier said Wolfe was “extremely intoxicated” and “did have his mouth in the area of the animal’s mouth, I guess.”
Another witness observed Wolfe kneeling near the dead animal and gesturing as though he was conducting a seance.
Wolfe will face charges of public drunkeness before a district judge in Jefferson County at an unscheduled date.
Police listed “society” as the victim of the crime.

Let’s get to the news… (Play News Music – Clip 03)

LONDON (Reuters) – A British university is to hold a conference on Vampires in an effort to counterbalance the "Americanization" of the fictional genre.

Delegates to the University of Hertfordshire's "Open Graves, Open Minds: Vampires and the Undead in Modern Culture" conference to be held on April 16-17 will have their food served to them out of coffins as part of a mission to encourage students of all ages to study literature.

English lecturer Sam George, who has just launched a Master of Arts degree in vampire fiction at Hertfordshire, said the most famous vampire narrative of all, Dracula, was written by Irishman Bram Stoker and set in London and Whitby in Yorkshire, but that now with the "Twilight" saga and "True Blood," modern vampires have become Americanized.

"It's amazing how many British actors have played Dracula on screen," George said in a statement on the university's website. "I aim to put the British vampire back on the map."

George said she is particularly interested in the new teen vampire narratives which act as a useful metaphor for wider teen anxieties about their bodies and the first stirrings of desire.

"The new breed of vampires are far from monstrous, they are glamorous and sexy and have an emotional side," she said. "Their (teenagers') attraction to vampire figures provides a safe way for them to acknowledge these desires."
Conference lectures will be delivered by academics and author Marcus Sedgwick, who writes young adult fiction with a vampire twist.

Panel topics during the two-day event will include "Dracula Lives," "Appetites of the Undead," "Undead Victorians," "Undead Teens," "Politics of the Undead," "UndeadRomance," "The Gay Undead," "Undead TV," "Undead in the New Media," "Identity, Legality and the Undead" and "Gendering the Undead."

LONDON (Reuters) – Two women were arrested at a British airport on suspicion of trying to smuggle a dead relative onto a flight bound for Germany, police said on Tuesday.
The 91-year-old deceased man was pushed in a wheelchair through Liverpool's John Lennon airport wearing sunglasses before check-in staff became suspicious and he was prevented from boarding the plane.
He was believed to have been driven about 35 miles to the airport by taxi from Oldham, Greater Manchester, police added.
The women were arrested on suspicion of failing to give notification of a death and were released on bail.
"At 11 a.m. on Saturday 3 April 2010, police at Liverpool John Lennon airport were alerted to the death of a 91-year-old man in the terminal building," police said in a statement.
"Two women aged 41 and 66 were arrested on suspicion of failing to give notification of death."
The cause of death is not known.

COPENHAGEN (Reuters) – A few hundred warehouse workers and drivers at Danish brewer Carlsberg halted work for a second day on Thursday to protest a company decision to limit beer drinking at work to lunch breaks.
The strike in Denmark followed the company's April 1 decision to introduce new rules for employees on beer drinking at work, said Jens Bekke, spokesman at the world no.4 brewer.
"There has been free beer, water and soft drinks everywhere," he said. "Yesterday, beers were removed from all refrigerators. The only place you can get a beer in future is in the canteen, at lunch."
Bekke said drivers retained an old right to three beers per day outside lunch hours, and warehouse workers claimed the same right.
"Because of that, the warehouse staff went on strike yesterday, with other staff striking in sympathy," he said.
Bekke said as many as 800 had walked out on Wednesday, with 250 still on strike on Thursday, and the Confederation of Danish Industry and trade union 3F had agreed to look into the dispute.
He said there would be no shipments from Copenhagen on Thursday, and delays in the rest of the country, but said he expected the financial effect of the strike to be minor.
He added that Carlsberg's trucks have alcohol locks so drivers would not be able to drink too much and drive.

The Rest of the Story
This food belongs to the same animal group as both the spider and the common bug. They were initially thought of as giant hassles that got in the way when people were trying to catch other animals for food in the same region where these animals live
This food is something people used to give to their indentured servants to eat. People were so averse to eating it that they ground it up and used it as fertilizer, instead. Being seen as someone who had to eat this type of food was something you generally didn't tell anyone until at least the third date.
British POWs during the Revolutionary War supposedly revolted over being fed too much of this food, after having apparently developed culinary Stockholm Syndrome from British food. Some states actually had laws against feeding this food to inmates more than a few times a week, on the grounds that it was cruel and unusual punishment, as it was seen as the equivalent of eating rats.
So what is this food? Lobster!
Then How Did it Get So Fancy?
Somebody went and invented the railroad. Soon, rich people from the middle of the country--who were painfully unaware of what was cool--were tricked into buying the sea insects. But after tasting them, they realized that they must have discovered the long lost gatekeeper for butter.
Ironically, lobster is now a commonly requested food for prisoners receiving a last meal before execution, where as back in the day who knows how many last meal requests were something to the effect of, "Anything but more freakin' lobster, ya cruel bastards!"

Show Prep #43

Greetings and Salutations, people. This is Vertically Striped Radio…where if you don’t eat your meat, you don’t get any pudding. I mean seriously…How can you have any pudding if you don’t eat your meat?

Before we go any further in this outstanding entertainment program…a moment of silence is in order. We suffered a great loss this past week, the No Name Show closed it’s doors for good. The tough economic times have claimed another victim, and when even free internet podcasts are falling, you know we have hit hard times. Out of respect...let’s take a moment of silence to pause and reflect (Pause) The No Name Show with Aaron Young from up in Washington was a stalwart of the Dameshek Amalgamated Messageboard Network, and it’s passing is difficult. Just know that in this dark hour, Vertically Striped Radio is there for you. In all seriousness, though. I would like to say that I truly enjoyed Aaron’s work on the No Name Show, and while I understand he has his reasons for ending production, I hope that one day we will see it’s glorious return.

Also on DAMN radio this week, The LCS Hockey Show had a special Tuesday edition where they talked about Bigfoot. One of the topics they spoke about was why hasn’t anyone ever gotten a good picture of Bigfoot. Mitch Hedberg explained this several years ago, so I thought I’d do a public service to help anyone who was struggling with the issue by sharing Mitch’s rather reasonable explaination. (Get Clip of Mitch from Strategic Grill Locations –You Were Good)

As for me, here’s an update on my situation. When last I talked about me, I had just been laid off from my job downtown. Now, things are looking up. I have a friend who put in my resume for a Mortgage lender and I was contacted a little over a week ago for an interview. It went well, but I knew I had another potential, so although they offered me a position immediately, I told them I needed to wait to hear back from a couple other offers. I agreed to speak with them again on Friday. However, when Friday came, I still wasn’t ready to make a decision. I explained to the hiring manager my situation and was hoping to ask for a few more days to make a decision. At that time, they immediately raised their offer 40% on the spot. I immediately accepted, and now am working for them. So there is the update on me, and my savvy negotiating skills.

Today on Vertically Striped Radio: Broncos nation reacts to obtaining the Brady Quinn. How’s your bracket? Apparently I’m doing well, as I’m in the 96
th percentile over at ESPN, but I’ve not gotten too into the tourney this year thus far. Although perhaps that will change with round 2. Also…Who can you make fun of? Well, you can make fun of me because I’ve promised this segment for the past two Saturdays, but haven’t actually delivered on it yet. Things look good to actually talk about that this week, but I understand if you’re skeptical. (Also, this week I will be debuting the new single that is sure to be racing up the charts… “Anything for Lunch”) All that plus (or minus) much much more awaits you on VSR today. If you’d like to jump into the festivities you can do so by calling…

Let’s get to the news… (Play News Music – Clip 03)

LONDON (Reuters) – Staff at the Dinnington library are used to people bringing books back late but the package they received last month was in a class of its own.

It contained a paperback first edition copy of "Quatermass and the Pit" by Nigel Kneale which had been borrowed on September 24, 1965.

"I thought at first it was just a normal return, until I saw the color of the pages: they were very brown around the edges," said Alison Lawrie, the Principal Library Assistant.

"It's true that some people like to take their time with a good book, but 45 years is an incredible amount of time!"

Staff believe the book was borrowed from the old Dinnington Library, in Sheffield, South Yorkshire which opened in 1936 and is close to the current building which opened in 2000.

However, the identity of the borrower remains a mystery because records do not go back that far -- and there would have been no danger of a huge accumulated fine because all fines are capped at 6 pounds ($9).

"The person who posted it back to us would not be in any 'trouble' whatsoever," said Lawrie. "If the person who returned the book wants to come forward, we'd love to know the story behind it."

Man…a library book that was mysteriously returned after 45 years. This sounds like a job for Bookman!

MOSCOW (Reuters) –

A cautionary tale for lovers from Russia today. Seems a couple in Moscow died in a most unusual way last week. The couple was having sex in a car parked in a tiny garage in Moscow. Many Russians keep their cars in box-like iron garages near their homes, which snugly encase their cars.

It appears that due to the severe cold weather, they made a fatal mistake. The man and a woman retreated to their Volkswagen to have sex... Most likely the lovers turned on the engine to get warm," During a moment of "intimate closeness," the pair, in southern Moscow, inhaled carbon monoxide gas and died”

BERLIN (Reuters) – A German woman, fearful that a burglar was trying to break into her second storey apartment, called police after she heard someone climbing up to her balcony shortly after midnight, police said Thursday.

Police discovered the "burglar" was a man carrying flowers and a bottle of wine who turned out to be the woman's boyfriend, but then arrested him on an outstanding warrant.

"He was trying to surprise her with the flowers and a bottle of wine but it all went wrong," said Korbach police spokesman Volker Koenig. He said the man jumped down from the balcony and tried to escape but was quickly tackled by police.

"He nevertheless gave the police who were taking him to jail the bottle of wine as a gesture of thanks for the friendly treatment after the arrest," Koenig said.

DUBAI (Reuters) – Two Emirates airlines cabin crew have been ordered jailed for three months in Dubai over sexually explicit text messages, the latest in a string of indecency cases against foreigners, a newspaper reported Wednesday.

The pair, an Indian flight attendant and her cabin services supervisor, were convicted of "coercion to commit sin" over the messages and initially sentenced to six months in jail, The National newspaper said on its website, citing court documents.

The sentence was reduced on appeal last week to three months and deportation orders against the pair were lifted, it added. It did not reveal the content of the messages.

Dubai's foreign population has expanded rapidly in recent years as expatriates flocked to the Gulf Arab trade and tourism hub for its tax-free earnings and year-round sunshine.

The changes have challenged the Emirati population, which is now vastly outnumbered by foreigners, raising concern that their emirate's rapid pace of growth is a threat to their social and religious identity in what remains a deeply conservative region.

An Emirates spokeswoman declined to comment on the case as it was still ongoing.

The paper said the case emerged after the flight attendant's husband filed a lawsuit against his wife a year ago accusing her of being in an illicit relationship with her supervisor. It said the couple had been embroiled in a divorce battle since 2007.

The case is the latest decency case against foreigners accused of not respecting local mores.

In a separate case, a British pair caught kissing in public in Dubai is appealing a month-long jail sentence handed down after an Emirati mother complained her child had seen their indiscretion.

The pair, a British man living in Dubai and a female friend, were arrested in November on accusations of kissing and touching each other intimately in public and consuming alcohol, their lawyer said. They were ordered jailed for a month.

In a high-profile case in 2008, a British couple narrowly escaped jail after a court found them guilty of engaging in drunken sexual activity out of wedlock, and for doing so in public on a beach in the emirate.

They were sentenced to three months in prison followed by deportation, but had their jail terms overturned on appeal.

In a separate case this year, a British couple who shared a hotel room managed to escape trial in Dubai for having sex out of wedlock by producing a marriage certificate.

Let’s get to the news… (Play News Music – Clip 03)

VANCOUVER (Reuters) – Canada's largest airline has learned it sometimes has to take a back seat to the country's biggest sporting passion, ice hockey, the head of Air Canada said on Tuesday.
The airline was forced to delay a flight from Vancouver during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games because passengers watching the end of gold medal final on airport televisions ignored repeated calls to board.
"We incurred a flight delay for a reason Air Canada had not yet encountered in over 72 years of existence," chief executive Calin Rovinescu told a business gathering.
The Canadian fans were rewarded for their delay, as the nail-biting end to the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics saw Canada beat arch-rival United States 3-2 in overtime.

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) – A union representing Dutch nurses will launch a national campaign Friday against demands for sexual services by patients who claim it should be part of their standard care.
The union, NU'91, is calling the campaign "I Draw The Line Here," with an advert that features a young woman covering her face with crossed hands.
The union said in a statement Thursday that the campaign follows a complaint it had received in the last week from a 24-year-old woman who said a 42-year-old disabled man asked her to provide sexual services as part of his care at home.
The young woman witnessed some of the man's other nurses offering him sexual gratification, the union said. When she refused to do the same, he tried to dismiss her on the grounds that she was unfit to provide care.
"This type of action is not part of the job responsibilities of carers and nurses," NU'91 said.
The case has been reported to police, the union added.

WELLINGTON (Reuters) – A New Zealand man is recovering from injuries after being run over by his wife -- twice, local media reported on Friday.
Sandy Telford ran over her husband, Terry, as she backed down the driveway of their rural property in the Hawke's Bay region, 350 kilometers (220 miles) north-east of Wellington, the Dominion Post newspaperreported.
Not realizing what she had done, Telford then drove her car forward, running over him again.
Police said the woman was distraught and too upset to speak to them.
"We are treating it as an accident," a police spokesman told the newspaper.
Ambulance authorities said the husband suffered moderate head, chest and back injuries, but was "conscious and talking" after the incident.

Greetings and Salutations, people. It’s the radio show that’s riding a horse backwards. This is Vertically Striped Radio. I am your host Craig Dodge, coming live to you from the Vertically Striped Studios in Centennial, Colorado.

Right off the top today, I need to apologize for a gross oversight made on this program a few weeks back. You see, a few weeks ago, we did a review of the best and worst Super Bowl commercials, and somehow this commercial didn’t even get a mention. (Clip 20 – Old Spice Commercial) How did I miss this one? “I’m on a horse!?” That is pure gold. I’m not sure exactly where this one falls in relation to the other Super Bowl greats, but it is a huge oversight that it missed the list, so my apologies over to the ad geniuses over at Old Spice. My hat is off to you, I’m on a horse!

Anyway, I’d like to give my thanks to those of you passing along your condolences to me this week. If you were listening to the LCS Show on Thursday, you’d have heard Ed announce that I lost my job. He is correct, but not all is grimness and sadness. Tuesday was moving along smoothly and normally and then suddenly it all went wrong…much like this (Clip 17 – Tenor Fail)

Let’s get to the news… (Play News Music – Clip 03)

LONDON – A man from London, England has been sentenced to three years in prison after killing his wife by hitting her in the head with a television remote control. The trial was held in the Old Bailey, a famous court in London.
The court heard how 46-year-old electrical engineer Paul Harvey was arguing with 48-year-old American wife Gloria Laguna on topics relating to the man's step-daughter's education and his former wife. At the time, both husband and wife had consumed alcohol and cocaine.

When Paul threw the remote control, which weighed 160 grams, at Gloria, neither were aware of the fact that Gloria suffered from an extremely rare health condition which meant that an artery in her neck was weak. The remote control hit the area, causing Gloria to have a large brain hemorrhage. Paul attempted to give his wife mouth to mouth resuscitation, however he was unsuccessful and she later died from her injuries. Paul pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Johnathan Goldberg QC, who was defending Paul Harvey, said: "All he did was throw the remote control in her direction. By a fluke chance, maybe the same as, in a different context, winning the lottery, it landed on the exact spot where she had a weakness. He loved this woman very much. She was obviously a very fine woman who gave up her work for him. He is deeply ashamed and remorseful at the death of his wife at his hand."

Prosecuting attorney Richard Whittam said: "It would only have required a trivial incident to cause her death."

When sentencing Mr. Harvey, Judge Giles Forrester spoke to him. "You killed your wife, who was rightly been described by your counsel as a fine woman," he said. "You have this streak of anger and violence within your character that does surface from time to time."

MAIN TOPICS:

Admiral Ackbar – In the name of political correctness, many team names have bit the dust from cool names like the Washington Bullets to countless college teams named “Indians” to even Syracuse shortening Orangemen to simply “Orange” so as not to offend orange people. Finally, here is a mascot change I can get behind. (Clip 22 – Admiral Ackbar cereal) A Grassroots campaign is underway in Mississippi to have Admiral Ackbar become the new mascot for Ole Miss.

NFL Free Agency – Changes thus far
Bears – Add Julius Peppers and Chester Taylor – They are light on draft picks this year, so they went heavy in free agency.
Ravens – Traded with the Cardinals to get Anquan Boldin – Only cost a 3rd and a 4th round pick
Broncos – May lose Brandon Marshall, as he is visiting Seattle, but if the Seahawks sign him the Broncos can match and if they don’t match, they’ll get the 6th overall pick in April’s draft
Panthers – Lose Peppers and also cut Jake Delhomme
Cardinals – Trade away Boldin, lose linebacker Karlos Dansby to Miami and Safety Antrel Rolle to the Giants and of course they lost Kurt Warner to retirement. Could be a down year for the 2 time defending NFC West Champs
Browns – Josh Cribbs signed extension with the Browns, not going anywhere.
Lions – Defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch leaves Titans to sign with Detroit. Lions also signed Nate Burleson.

Sports Bigamy – “The Dude” on Dameshek.com says that he is an Eagles AND Jaguars fan.

5. Overtime – First score wins. (Don’t go to college style. Either make it a full 10 or 15 minutes, make it where you have to score 6, or both teams get a possession.)
6. You only get 2 challenges unless you get them both right
7. Pass interference is a spot foul

Who CAN we make fun of now?
-The rural poor – AKA Rednecks or Yokels.
-Cultures that never actually existed – (Clip 23 – Perfect Strangers – Look a Toaster!) Merpeople, Fake Eastern European cultures such as Balki Bartakomous from Mypos or Latka Gravis from Taxi.
-Cultures that no longer exist –Feel free to make fun of Carthaginians or Huns.
-Rich People – Mr. Burns is the perfect example. It gets even worse if the person who is rich becomes politically active and starts advocating positions they don’t seem to follow themselves…Al Gore…It doesn’t help if the rich people start making outrageous claims like that they created the internet. Dorothy Parker said "If you want to know what God thinks of money, look at the people he gave it to."
-White People – In general it’s fine to make fun of white people. No one seems to really care. Even better, It is always fun if the White people have a racial identity crisis.
-Stupid people
-Amish people – They’ll never know! Plus, have you SEEN their clothes?
-Fake Radio Personalities – If you’re on the BlogTalk radio, I think you’re probably fair game.
